The Archaeological Institute of America, San Diego Society presents a one day workshop INTRODUCTION TO EGYPTIAN HIEROGLYPHS, Saturday, May 22, 1999 You will solve the mysteries of ancient Egyptian writing. This one day session includes lectures, reading, and writing exercises and will provide you with a basic understanding of the principles of the Egyptian hieroglyphic writing system. You will learn to write your name in hieroglyphs and much more: You will read and write the names of pharaohs and recognize simple funerary formulas. Your instructor, John Sarr, is director of the Ancient Egypt Studies Association, a member of the International Association of Egyptologists, and is curator of the Portland Art Museum's exhibit of Egyptian scarabs.
