Final Announcement with Change of Criteria and New Closing Date _______________________________________________________________ Rehabilitation Research Centre Post-Doctoral Fellow/Research Fellow (3 Years) Reference No. CC99/01 A Post-Doctoral Fellow or Research Fellow is sought to undertake rehabilitation research within the Centre and to provide supervisory guidance to postgraduate students enrolled in the Centre within the Faculty of Health Sciences. The successful candidate will collaborate on some of the Centre’s existing research projects, but there is a strong expectation that the candidate will undertake new directions of rehabilitation research with the potential to attract post-graduate students in their field of interest. Essential: Post-graduate qualifications at the Ph.D. level (for Post-Doctoral Fellow or Research Fellow appointment) or demonstration of attaining a Ph.D. within 6 months from initial date of employment (for Post-Doctoral Fellow appointment). A strong research background must be demonstrated in one (or more) areas of: * rehabilitation outcomes after exercise training in disabled populations, * the non-invasive assessment of muscle metabolism (NIRS or equivalent) in patients, * use of exercise as rehabilitation for post-cerebrovascular disease ("stroke") patients * clinical biomechanics research related to daily functional tasks for individuals with spinal cord injury. * computer modelling or motor-control of FES-assisted gait in paraplegia Ability to communicate effectively with clients, patients and the general population. A record of publication in international refereed journals, as well as a demonstrated track record successful competitive external research grants (for Research Fellow appointment only). Desirable: A solid background in rehabilitation research with undergraduate qualifications in medicine, physiotherapy, physiology, human movement sciences or a similar allied health science discipline. Demonstration of successful supervision of post-graduate research students. A previous background in exercise conditioning as rehabilitation for individuals with disease or disability and sound knowledge of statistical data analysis techniques related to small sample research studies. The appointment is for 3 years, non-renewable. Appointment at Research Fellow level is subject to demonstration of previous post-graduate student supervision and external research grant acquisition.
