 The School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol 
wishes to appoint a Research Associate to work on a project 
investigating and mapping underlying causes of socioeconomic 
inequalities in health in Britain.  The post will suit a postgraduate 
with previous experience of quantitative research in the social 
sciences and who can demonstrate an enthusiasm for research in the 
field of health inequalities. Experience of working with large 
population datasets, analysing official surveys on health and an 
awareness of the major debates in the field would be an advantage. The 
post is offered for a 12 month period commencing 6 April 1999 or as 
soon after as possible. The salary will be on the RA scale 1A within 
the range £16,655-£22,726, depending on qualifications and experience.
