Dear List, So many people have responded with thoughtful and helpful comments to my previous questions to the list, that I will venture another: Recently I have been reading H. Ellis Davidson's 'Roles of the Northern Goddess'. In it, she gives several examples of the way in which belief and worship directed towards pagan goddesses was transferred to the Virgin Mary (or sometimes other Christian female saints) after the introduction of Christianity. Does anyone know of any work that looks specifically at this question? Or do any of you have any thoughts on the subject? Ingegerd H.
