The British Comparative Literature Association and the British Centre
for Literary Translation (University of East Anglia) are pleased to
announce their continued joint sponsorship of a translation
competition for 1998-99. Prizes will be awarded for the best
unpublished literary translations from any language into English.
Literary translation includes poetry, prose, or drama, from any
period. First prize: stlg350; second prize: stlg200; third prize: stlg100;
other entries may receive commendations. There may be special prizes
for translations from specific languages.

CLOSING DATE FOR ALL ENTRIES: 28 February 1999

The entry fee is five pounds sterling. Prize-winners will be
announced in July 1999 and prizes will be presented at the
conference on Translation and Nation in September 1999 at the
University of Essex.

Winning entries will be published in the annual journal, *Comparative
Criticism* (Cambridge University Press). Winners who wish to be
considered for a four-week residency at the British Centre for
Literary Translation may apply direct to the BCLT.
