Dear Victor, Adding to your list of literature on the lenght of antibiotic treatment in UTI two older studies: one meta-analysis on single dosis and a peculiar study on one tablet, low dosis of trimethoprim. The latter, as far as can recall, concerns 1 tabl of 100 mg trimethoprim and it is efficacious. By the way: why has never been tried to treat a strept throat similarely to UTI: one dosis, low dosis, short courses of 3, 2 or even 1 day. Microbiological statements about antibiotic resistance when treating with too short courses have never been proven. Another medical myth? Clinically recovery of streptococcus tonsillitis is remarkable quick, often within 24 hours.
