Job Title : Database Analyst Department : IT Reporting to : Internet Analyst Working with : Systems Librarian ? IT Consultant Job goal : Consolidation and development of College database applications. Providing secure and reliable networked access to database systems. Hours : 35 hours per week, 1 hour for lunch. 9am ?5pm (Hours flexible, to departmental requirements by agreement.) Job Specific. 1. Provision of support to existing users of database and productivity applications. 2. Consolidation, rationalisation and development of existing database systems. 3. Management and access control to college INTRANET systems. 4. Deputising for the Internet Analyst during absence. 5. Ensure security procedures are developed and adhered to. 6. Development and implementation of new Intranet based services. 7. Staff training on Intranet systems and policies. 8. Systems backup and recovery procedures within areas of responsibility. General Duties : 1. Ensure that security and virus protection procedures and practices are in place, effective and are understood and observed by users. 2. Compliance and implementation of copyright laws, in relation to the legal use of software within the campus, taking appropriate action where necessary. 3. Provide security backups where necessary . 4. Production of support notes and documentation. 5. Provide assistance to colleagues in the IT department. Preferred Person Specification Education: - Minimum HND level (or equivalent) in IT related subject. - Knowledge of Internet/CD-ROM and Networking technologies. Background: - Two years general exposure to PCs and related peripherals and a proven interest in information systems. - Internet & Intranet development experience, hands on WWW page development. - Understanding of network principles, experience of Novell 4.11. - Proven experience of database development (File-maker Pro ? Visual Basic).
