This workshop will provide an introduction and overview of approaches to courseware evaluation. It is aimed at lecturers and support staff with an interest in enhancing the quality of the courses they offer. TOPICS TO BE COVERED The morning session will introduce a well-established, flexible method for course evaluation. It will cover the effective integration of the resource, and assessments of worth. The afternoon activities will focus on evaluation design, introducing a range of alternative methods and explaining how these can be used. Participants will consider several key decisions: (1) the identification of stakeholders (2) the specification of evaluation questions (3) the selection of an evaluation methodology (4) the choice of data capture techniques (5) the selection of data analysis techniques Participants will receive materials that guide them through these stages, each of which will be supported by discussion. Within the activities, two choices are available: participants can either work with a pre-prepared example, or can use one of their own courses and design an appropriate evaluation strategy. WHO SHOULD ATTEND Teaching and support staff involved in the use of Learning Technology in further or higher education. PREREQUISITES No prior experience or expertise is required. EXPECTED OUTCOMES By the end of the workshop, participants will have: * an appreciation of the range of evaluation methods available * a detailed overview of an integrative evaluation methodology * guidelines for evaluation design, and an example of a course for which an evaluation strategy has been devised.
