Dynamic Conservatism
Resistance to change in organisations

Sunday 2 May

with Roger Casemore
This workshop introduces a person-centred approach to change in
organisational cultures. It will explore the nature of conflict between
internal individual values and organisational values, and how these
affect the management of cultural change. How do you you identify
resistance and how do you surface it when it appears so often to be
deeply embedded in the culture? What differences are there between
conscious & unconscious resistance and what strategies can we develop to
overcome them? The workshop will be mainly experiential with a mix of
direct input with group and individual exercises.

Roger is Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Warwick. He has been
a person-centred therapist for over 30 years and has been running his
own consultancy for the past 6 years. His past work includes being
Director of Government Quango and Director of Education for the Borough
of Kensington & Chelsea. He is currently chair of complaints procedures
in the BAC Council.

Group Supervision

Models and Strategies for Practice

Sunday 6 June

with Michael Carroll

While much counselling supervision literature and research is within the
area of individual supervision (one supervisor and one supervisee), in
reality group supervision is often the preferred option. It can be more
cost-effective and a richer experience for those involved. However,
there is little written about it and exceptionally little research in the
area.
This day will look in some detail at models and strategies in group
supervision which will be viewed as having two tasks: supervising and
creating a learning group.
Group supervisors not only have to know something about supervision but
must have working models of groups, learning within groups, group
dynamics and how to harness the efforts of the group to facilitate
individual learning. Group supervision is not a univocal term: there
are a variety of ways in which it can take place all of which have their
own dynamics:

*	group supervision for trainees
*	group supervision (consultation) for experienced counsellors
*	team supervision in a group setting
*	peer group supervision
*	group supervision across counselling orientation
*	group supervision across professions

The training day will be an amalgamation of input, small group
exercises, group supervision examples and an opportunity to review the
dynamics within groups and how they can be marshalled in the learning
process.

Michael is a Fellow of BAC, a BAC Recognised Supervisor and a Chartered
Counselling Psychologist. He works as a counsellor, supervisor,
trainer and consultant to organisations. He has been Director of
Studies in Psychology and Counselling at Roehampton Institute London
where he directed the M.Sc. in Psychological Counselling. His book:
Counselling Supervision: Theory, Skills and Practice was published in
1996 by Cassell.

Celebrating Cultural Diversity

Sunday 27 June

with Masana De Souza

This experiential, participatory workshop honours the diversity of human
beings within our "global village". Our society is vigorously searching
for alternatives to the adversarial approach of dealing with cultural
disputes. Negotiating from bases of power and fixed positions deepens the
divide and expands the problem. The best and most lasting solutions and
resolutions are those created by the people directly involved. By
facilitating conciliation we can honour the participants and their
perspectives.
The day will offer the chance to reflect on your experience of conflict
and its resolution, and engage in dialogue with a model of the "journey
to conciliation" which will be interwoven throughout to produce a
creative transformation of conflicts within ourselves and our lives. You
can expect to learn new ways of experiencing and harnessing the wisdom of
diversity in the group, to practise authentic communication and ways of
dealing with prejudice, especially in the resolution of conflicts.

Masana is an international organisation development consultant, mediator
and facilitator who specializes in change management, consensus-building
and conflict management. She has wide experience in designing, developing
and managing voluntary organisations involved in mediation and family
support projects in both Jamaica and Britain. She is an Executive
Director of Mediation UK. A Winston Churchill Fellow, Masana recently
returned from examining the way conflict resolution strategies are
transforming South Africa.
