Position Guest Curator/Designer Fellowship The Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography The Cooper Union School of Art Qualifications Professional designers, historians, educators and curators are welcome to apply. Acceptance is based on the merits of the proposed project and the applicantUs experience and ability to realize the proposed project. Application The Lubalin Study Center seeks original proposals for installations, publications and/or exhibitions related to the history and theory of graphic design. A preliminary letter due November 1st should describe the scope of the project. The applicant will work in consultation with the Director of the Study Center who will oversee the project and provide research, design and editorial advice. The final scope of the project is contingent on efforts at fundraising (see budget below). Applicants are encouraged to apply in teams of two or more and share the fellowship stipend. Background The Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography, www.cooper.edu/art/lubalin.html, at the Cooper Union is recognized as a leading facility in the national and international design communities for the examination and analysis of design theory, criticism and history. The Lubalin Study Center is also the founder of the National Graphic Design Image Database, ngda.cooper.edu, an on-line service devoted to the collection, preservation and dissemination of graphic design. Deadlines Preliminary Letter: December 1 Final Proposal: January 15th, 2000 Final Proposal The proposal should include twenty slides of the proposed project; ten slides of previous projects (if applicable); a project description; resume; publication outline (if applicable), and a funding strategy.
