Hi, Alan, How about sending me a review copy for Yorkshire History Quarterly Cheers Phil Hudson. Editor ---------- From: robert and fiona forsythe Sent: 13 June 1999 08:45 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: W.H. Auden: Pennine Poet Folks In conjunction with Alan Myers, and published by the North Pennines Heritage Trust, I have written and just published a 60 page booklet entitled W. H Auden: Pennine Poet. Further details are at http://www.forsythe.demon.co.uk/bkaud.htm Some of you may wonder what on earth this can have to do with mining. The answer is a great deal. Mining heritage can be immensely proud that a poet on the world stage like Auden was so intensely attached and knowledgable about lead and other metal mines and was prepared to write so extensively about the subject. He is one of the unrecognised pioneers of industrial archaeology reaching Rookhope from Birmingham as a 12 year old. The literati have tended to neglect this side of Auden but it was a life long interest that he asserted underpinned his poetic genius. The book is GBP 3.50 and trade orders are encouraged. It has the potential to change a lot of perceptions about Auden and the Pennines. If you want to see Auden's own pictures of for instance Coniston Copper Mines, just get the book. There are also colour photos, specially drawn maps and extracts of Auden's work. If anyone needs a review copy (and will furnish a review back for our files please) contact by email NPHT Admin Office <administration.office@ virgin.net> or phone 01434 382037. -- robert forsythe
