Unecessary replies to list -

This is a list for the discussion and dissemination of information on mining
history, and to make communication easier the default is set to reply to the
whole list. There are occasions when a reply to the whole list is
inappropriate. Please take a second or two to check the subject content and
direct the reply accordingly.

I cite as an example the recent spate of messages on Ancient & Primitive
Mining. The original message offering copies of the papers went correctly to
the whole list but replies accepting the offer, without expanding on the
subject, should have been sent to the originator of the offer only, not to
the whole list.

Please check before hitting the reply button.

HTML content in list messages -

This applies particularly to members using Microsoft Outlook as their e-mail
application. Could you please switch off the HTML generation when sending
messages to the list. A string of unwanted characters are annoying to
members, the majority of whom do not use that application, particularly if
they receive list messages as a digest.
