For the first time in Scotland, the National Museums of Scotland & Scottish
Cultural
Resource Access Network, SCRAN, are hosting the latest 'EVA' Electronic
Imaging & the
Visual Arts, event, now in its tenth year. This Conference is held
internationally (California,
New York, Texas, Moscow, and Gifu, Japan) as well as across the European
Union. It acts as
a forum for users, suppliers, researchers and government in the 'Culture x
Technology' area.
The main EVA'99 Scotland Conference will be held on July 22 and 23 at the
National
Museums of Scotland, Edinburgh, where the exciting new Museum of Scotland
is expected to
be a major attraction for Conference speakers and participants, including
from Italy, Japan,
Netherlands and USA. Scottish speakers include John Crompton of the Museum
of Scotland,
Graham Durrant of the Glasgow Science Centre, Sandy Buchanan of SCRAN,
Robin Tatler of
Delphic Interactive and Jill Harden & Elizabeth Henson of the National
Museums of Scotland,
NMS. The Conference will be co-chaired by Bruce Royan of SCRAN, Mike
Spearman of NMS
and James Hemsley of VASARI UK.

A special SCRAN Workshop will be held on Wednesday afternoon 21st July,
which will
present highlights of this major national program (budget £15 million)
aimed primarily at the
Educational Application of Scottish Cultural Heritage using the latest
technologies including
the World Wide Web. There is also a post-Conference Seminar / Workshop on
Saturday
24th July on opportunities for support from the European Commission's Fifth
Framework
Programme 1999 - 2002.
