Dear MCG List Members Quite a few new members of this list have joined since I took over from Tony Gill as "owner", just before Christmas. As there still isn't any traffic to speak of, I thought I would remind subscribers of how to post messages and also give some sources of help in using the MCG list to best advantage. I know that I have a tendency to forget where I have put the instructions one receives on joining such lists, and I doubt that I am alone in this. HOW TO POST A MESSAGE TO THE GROUP Simply send your e-mail to [log in to unmask] Please ensure that it is encoded as plain text, NOT HTML or some other encoding scheme. Please do not attach anything to your message - software, images, sound files etc. Many members, myself included, access this list by means of primitive text-based e-mail systems rather than sophisticated web browsers. If you do want to submit software, images, etc. for distribution to MCG members, please contact me personally. There are means by which this can be done safely. The list is not moderated (yet!) so you can say what you like, in any way you like, on any subject you like. Please try to observe the basic rules of netiquette as far as possible. There is an excellent summary of this, in relation to discussion groups at http://www.fau.edu/netiquette/net/dis.html HOW TO LEAVE THE GROUP To leave mcg send this command: leave mcg as the only text in the body of an email message addressed to: [log in to unmask] I have had a number of messages to MCG members bounced back to me by Mailbase, because they cannot be contacted. If this happens repeatedly over a period of a week or so, I shall remove them from the membership list. If this happens to you, simply re-subscribe. The sole reason for adopting this procedure is to cut down the number of administrative messages I receive from Mailbase. It is possible to suspend your membership temporarily, which will avoid the problem at my end. See the mailbase instructions for details. TO GET MORE INFORMATION For any queries relating to the list, contact the owner at: [log in to unmask] Comprehensive instructions, a list of members and an archive of recent correspondence are also available at http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/mcg/ Thanks for bearing with me thus far..... --------------------------------------------------------------------- Ian O.
