JIBS User Group Meeting, July 1st 1999, UMIST, Manchester Subject wise: JIBS subject oriented User Group meetings The JIBSUG Committee is pleased to announce a day of open meetings aimed at both users and librarians. The meetings form some of the pre session activites for the Library Association Umbrella 5 Conference http://www.la-hq.org.uk/directory/training/u5/ Those attending our meeting will also have the opportunity to visit the exhibition at U5. In line with the developing notion of the "national resource" [http://www.jisc.ac.uk/cei/dner_colpol.html] , there are separate meetings for Social Sciences, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Arts and Humanites and Biomedical/Life Sciences in addition to a general meeting. The meetings will also give participants the opportunity to hear from the resource providers themselves about future developments. Provisional Programme 11.00 Welcome & Introduction 11.15 Engineering and Physical Sciences Meeting 12.15 Social Sciences Meeting. 13.15 Arts and Humanities Meeting 14.15 Biomedical/life sciences Meeting The major data centres will be present at these subject meetings to discuss the range of resources currently available and future plans. The subject meetings will also give participants an opportunity to help identify gaps in current provision. 15.15 General meeting JISC Collections Development Manager Alicia Wise will brief the meeting on just how the DNER concept is developing in terms of collection development, and also how the RDNC and the DNER fit together. In particular at this meeting we will discuss new multi disciplinary services such as PASCAL and Web of Science. There will also be an opportunity to look at other existing services. We regret that the timing of this meeting has clashed with MIDAS Open Forum. It is hoped, however that users of MIDAS bibliographic and full text e-journal services may be able to attend parts of both meetings. Maps/directions from UMIST to the MIDAS meeting will be available at the JIBS meetings on the day.
