The consultation period on the green paper "Our Professional Future" ended on 15th March. An independent firm of consultants, Chambers & Stoll, was engaged to analyse the responses. The Unification Planning Group (UPG) met on 30th March to consider the analysis and have produced a report which is now available at: http://www.la-hq.org.uk/directory/prof_issues/upgsummary.html IIS Council met yesterday (April 26th) to discuss the report but were unable to recommend acceptance of the report as there are several issues which have still not been addressed. In particular(as far as UKOLUG are concerned), there has been no change to the section on IIS SIGs. As Chair of UKOLUG, I expressed extreme disappointment that only one of the questions that we had raised in our submissions had been answered (the proportion of OiL members that will be required to be members of the parent body). The bulk of our submission, including our own suggestion on a possible way forward for SIGs, appears to have been ignored. IIS Council agreed to request that the UPG meets to discuss this and other outstanding issues. UKOLUG has offered to become directly involved in the discussions in order to represent more fully our members' concerns, and to put forward our own ideas for the future. ------------------------------- Karen Blakeman, UKOLUG Chair RBA Information Services, Tel: 0118 9472256, Fax: 0870 056 8547, Mobile: 0860 785716 E-Mail: [log in to unmask], http://www.rba.co.uk/ %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
