Funding from Europe - the IST Programme Library Association Headquarters, London, on 11 October 1999 A one day executive briefing organised by The Library Association in association with the Library and Information Commission The European Commission is strongly committed to the Information Society. Opportunities for libraries, museums and archives seeking funding for projects are available in the EC Information Society Technologies (IST) Programme, part of the Fifth Framework Programme for research and technological development. The IST Programme offers funding towards projects with a European dimension. Of particular interest to libraries are the actions on improving access to Europe's science and culture knowledge, and on the sustainable development of valuable digital repositories in Europe's libraries, museums and archives. This briefing will help you understand the opportunities offered by the IST Programme. The day will cover the IST Workprogramme, how and when to submit project proposals and how to find suitable project partners. As well as listening to the theory, there will be opportunities to learn from the experiences of partners in other European programmes. Practical advice on useful Web sites will also be given, and participants will be able to browse the Web on the day. Who should attend? Librarians and LIS researchers with an interest in information technology projects with a European focus, and those responsible for identifying funding opportunities in their organisations will all benefit from attending. The event will also interest corresponding personnel from museums, galleries and archives.
