There was a small electrical fire which was extinguished by 
library security officers and the fire brigade.  There was 
no damage to collection items or book storage areas and 
indeed there was no question of any risk to them.  There 
will be a forensic analysis of what happened to make sure 
that any necessary precautions to prevent a recurrence are 
taken.

There was some misreporting of the scale of the incident 
because the Fire Brigade attends in large numbers as a 
matter of routine if the fire alarm sounds.  This is 
because of the importance of the building and its contents.
