Dear David My wish list (apart from the personal jacuzzi and vintage champayne on tap for every librarian) would be a decent library management system standardized across the region (Heritage or similar?) with money written in for training and also to do the stock convergence from present systems. Also I think that at the moment we are all separately inventing similar wheels. Most people want the right information, in the right format, delivered at the right place at the right time etc. etc. etc. Could a regional contract be negotiated whereby we could all access a networked system (Miram? ovid?) of databases with full text journal options further developing the original nownet scheme but available to all NHS staff not only in the libraries but available from individual wards and units. I suppose I'm re-inventing a regional Nelh, but many of us are already doing similar things with limited resources. This would of course be a recurring expense so may not be possible. If it isn't (nobody ever accused me of not being able to spend money!!) how about some extra staff on 12 months temporary contracts as trainers? NHS staff are crying out to be trained in the new technologies and it is taking up a lot of the library staff time. These could be jointly shared posts i.e. with us the post could be shared with Burnley. I would like to be able to offer people training on their own wards and units on their own familiar machines - lets get these systems used, and be able to support people properly!
