*First Call for Papers* The Quantitative Methods Research Group of the RGS-IBG and the Remote Sensing Society MAT-SIG are organising a 1-day session on surface modelling in geography at the RGS-IBG 2000 conference to be held at the University of Sussex, January 4-7, 2000. The session will include up to 16 papers plus poster presentations. Papers will be considered for publication in a special issue of Transactions in GIS to appear in December 2000. Papers are encouraged in any aspect of surface modelling in geography, but the following four themes are particularly encouraged. -Data structures for surface modelling Adaptive surface models; multi-scale structures; data compression; triangulations. -Visualisation of surface models Surface realism; dynamic visualisation; visualisation for decision making; rendering techniques. -Applications of surface modelling Urban environments; landscape modelling; decision making; remote sensing. -Processing of surface models DEM and TIN feature extraction; integration with remotely sensed imagery; surface analysis; surface modelling. Abstracts of up to 300 words should be submitted to Dr. Nick Tate by 1st July, 1999.
