GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION: Under direction, performs/assists in the implementation and maintenance of an ArcInfo-based geographic information system (GIS). Utilizes GIS and computer-assisted drawing (CAD) software to develop, convert, process, analyze and output geographic data, and integrate with OCWD's Water Resources Management System. Designs and generates cartographic products, and performs spatial analysis. Assists with the development of standards, quality control procedures and documentation for GIS maintenance. Designs, develops and programs GIS related procedures, applications and user-interfaces. Participates in user needs assessments, recommends and implements GIS solutions. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in geology, geography, computer science or a related field. Thorough knowledge of GIS techniques and cartographic principles gained from formal training and/or work experience. Two years of professional experience using a variety of computer systems preferred, and experience using ESRI products (ArcInfo, GRID, ArcView, Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst) highly desirable. Familiarity with groundwater modeling a plus. Ability to use AutoCAD, SQL, Microsoft Office, UNIX, DOS and Windows NT workstations, plotters, digitizing tablets and other peripheral devices. Good sense of graphic layout techniques. Organized, thorough, detailed-oriented work approach with good verbal and written communications skills. A valid California driver's license is required.
