Research Fellow School of Applied Geology, Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia (Fixed term – 3 years) Ref: 3305 The School of Applied Geology through the Centre of Excellence in Mass Spectrometry seeks to appoint a Research Fellow to establish and operate the West Australian Argon Isotope Facility. This state of the art argon laser facility is a collaborative research initiative by Curtin University and the University of Western Australia and has received major equipment funding from the Australian Research Council. The facility will complement existing SHRIMP and TIMS instruments at Curtin University, and will also provide age data for the palaeomagnetic laboratory at UWA. The facility will enable new projects to be undertaken on a range of geoscience topics in the ARC-supported Tectonics Special Research Centre (TSRC) located at the UWA and Curtin University and in the Centre for Strategic Mineral Deposits (CSMD) at the UWA, as well as a variety of programs related to regional tectonics, structural and metamorphic geology and mineralization. The Argon Facility will also provide a strong basis for enhanced collaboration with industry, who already contribute significantly to research efforts within the State. We are looking for a person experienced in argon geochronology and in particular in maintaining and running a noble gas mass spectrometer with UV and IR laser-based extraction system. The successful applicant will be responsible for establishing the laboratory, ensuring its ongoing day to day operations, collaborating with researchers wishing to use the facility, and developing an active research program in argon geochronology. All applicants are expected to hold doctoral qualifications and to have demonstrated research experience in argon geochronology. General Information Salary range $ 49, 865 - $ 59,214 p.a. The total employment cost, including superannuation (SSAU) is $ 61,832 - $ 73,425 which is available for repackaging through the University’s remuneration packaging service.
