I have recently joined the mail group and send this note to introduce
myself and also to advise members of the attached course that we are
organising.

Introductions then, my name is Nigel Board and I am the Department Head for
the Land Assessment Group at ENSR International in the UK. I am an
environmental scientist by training and started my career in the area of
industrial wastewater treatment. For the past 10 years I have worked on
contaminated land projects first with Travers Morgan, then Wimpey
Environmental, Fugro Environmental and now ENSR.

Regarding the RBCA training, we have concluded that many members of our
staff need to be familiar with quantitative risk assessment (QRA) models,
RBCA being just one. We have sent 3 staff to training courses in the US on
this topic in the past couple of years and have now decided to bring the
RBCA course to the UK. We can accommodate additional people on the course
and offer this opportunity to others within the industry. By teaming up
with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) to provide a
RBCA course in the UK we will be able to incorporate the relevant current
UK legislative background to a RBCA application.

Two courses will be held in the Hemel Hempstead area between 5 and 7
October 1999:

A) Risk Based Corrective Action Applied at Petroleum Release Sites

Two-day course provides an outline of all the processes involved in
the migration of contaminants (over 65 individual compounds) and the
associated risk to human health. The course is based on a practical
     learning approach using numerous exercises.

B) Risk Based Corrective Action Tool Kit

One-day course outlines case studies and Tier 2 RBCA Tool Kit and FATE
5 software. It explains the significance of data input, decisions
associated with the selection of data, sensitivity of the data, and
what the spreadsheet is doing with the data.

Please note that course A is a prerequisite for course B.
