PhD Studentship in Civil Engineering Department of Civil and Offshore Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh The research project will entail the numerical modelling of two-phase flow, in particular, the generation, and mechanisms of migration, of gas (carbon dioxide and methane) and leachate from a landfill site. An understanding of the finite element method or the control volume numerical solution technique would be an advantage. In order to attract the very best candidates, the department will make maintenance payments of £7000 per annum (EPSRC studentships are currently £5455 per annum). Potential applicants should be of a high calibre with a first class or upper second class honours degree in engineering, applied science, mathematics or a related field.
