Please feel free to redistribute this announcement. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS WORKSHOP TRAINING IN CROSS-NATIONAL RESEARCH WITH LONGITUDINAL HOUSEHOLD PANELS 5. September - 17. September 1999 Departamento de Economia UNIVERSIDAD Carlos III de Madrid Getafe/Madrid This workshop is organized by CEPS/INSTEAD in cooperation with Prof. Cesar Alonso and Prof. Sergi Jimenez together with Prof. Javier Ruiz-Castillo from Carlos III. The Panel Comparability (PACO) project is a coordinated approach to create an international comparative database integrating micro data from various national longitudinal household panels over a larger number of years. The aim of the (PACO) training workshops is to enable social scientists to turn regularly to cross-national and truly comparative panel data. The researchers will become acquainted with the panel studies existing in Europe, and meet with specialists in comparative research and panel analyses. They will learn more about the various national taxation and social security systems, the domestic labour markets, the way they operate and how they affect the various groups and categories of people within the total population. The training session is intended for young researchers (under 35 years) who plan to use panel data, are engaged in comparative research or will undertake such work in future. The PACO training course is organized jointly by CEPS/INSTEAD and Departamento de Economia UNIVERSIDAD Carlos III de Madrid Getafe. It is supported by the Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) Programme of the European Community. The EU grant largely compensates for travel expenses, accomodation, meals and inscription fees. The grant is only available for participants either coming from a) the EU-countries, b) the Associated states or c) the INCO program supported countries. According to the funding conditions Associated states are : Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Norway. INCO program supported countries are: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaidjan, Belarus, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Poland, Rumania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine. Participants from countries other than those listed above are also welcome to participate, but they either have to pay the full workshop fee themselves, or look for alternative funding.
