Eight months from now, we'll be in the midst of Summit 2000. For those who don't know about it - Summit 2000: Children, Youth and the Media: Beyond the Millennium will take place in Toronto, Canada May 13-17, 2000. It's an international conference bringing together those who work in media education and the media professionals who make the screen based media products which we talk about. For more information see the web site (www.summit2000.net) Update: 1: With all practical workshops, panels, academic papers, master classes and case studies now set we have: - 135 Media Education presentations from 33 countries. - 70 Academic papers from 24 countries - 70 media professionals' presentations from 25 countries. 2: Topics covered include issues of representation, ownership, commercialism in the schools, values, analysis of individual shows, pitching stories and products, media violence, marketing, financing, pop music, pop culture, race, reality in movies, co-production, humour, at least 20 presentations in the area of new media - internet, digital technology etc. and many many many more. 3: At the end of September, descriptions for all these presentations and the presenters will be posted on the Summit web site. 4: There will be at least 15 presentations in French, and 15 in Spanish. 5: There will be built into the presentations, a series of special workshops as part of Introductory Courses for teachers at the Elementary level and at the Secondary level. 6: The Registration Booklet will be available in early November. It will be mailed out to all who have requested it - if your name is on the NMEC list from the St. Paul Conference you will automatically be sent one. If you wish a Registration Booklet mailed to you, please send me your snail mail address. Registration will be limited to 1,500.
