The obvious ones in British classical balladry are "The Cruel Mother" and
"The Maid and the Palmer" (Child 20 & 21) and "Thomas Rhymer" (Child 37)
(this probably isn't news).  I'm afraid I can't think of broadside examples
however.  You might also be interested in the Norwegian ballad
"Draumkvaede" (The Dream Song) which recounts a journey to heaven and hell.
 A significant amount of literature on this ballad is available in English.
