CONSERVATION MANAGER Scale SO2 (SCP
32-34 £20,355 - £21,549)
West Yorkshire Archive Service is part of West
Yorkshire Joint Services, and has offices in all five Metropolitan Districts in
West Yorkshire. We are looking for an experienced conservator to manage
the Conservation Studio, which is based in our Wakefield Headquarters. The
Studio delivers comprehensive conservation and preservation services to all
service points within West Yorkshire Archive Service and to a number of external
clients.
The successful applicant should be flexible and
forward-looking, with the enthusiasm to develop a dynamic and successful
team. You will be expected to take responsibility for the management and
active leadership of the Studio and its young staff, two of whom are currently
enrolled on the Society of Archivists' training scheme. You will be
responsible to the County Archivist, via the Area Manager, for the full range of
conservation and preservation work throughout the Service, liaising with and
advising professional archive staff. You will be responsible too for
ensuring a proper allocation of work to each office, and for maintaining a high
level of income generation within the Conservation Studio. You will also
be expected to participate in the Service's outreach
activities.
Applicants should have good communication
skills, and hold the Society of Archivists' certificate in archive conservation
or equivalent. You should have at least seven years' qualified experience,
including extensive working knowledge of a busy archive conservation unit
working to specific financial targets. A current driving licence is
essential, and computer literacy will be required.
For further information and details of how to
apply, contact Sylvia Thomas, County Archivist, on 01924 305982 or write to West
Yorkshire Archive Service, Registry of Deeds, Newstead Road, Wakefield, WF1
