I am  forwarding this message on behalf of Gillian Wichelo:

As Society of Archivists representative on the BSI Data Protection Committee, Gillian Wichelo (Chairman, Records Management Group) has been tasked with writing a brief on the impact of the new Data Protection Act on personnel records.

Gillian would like people to contact her with practical suggestions and questions relating to the above, with an emphasis on practical rather than theoretical issues as it is intended that the brief will relate to real records in the real world. (An example would be "How do you deal with personnel records when the employee has gone abroad?")

The Act comes into force in March 2000, so this is an excellent opportunity for all SoA members to iron out those awkward HR questions in the new Act!

Unfortunately, Gillian's internet connection is not working at present. Please send your questions to Gillian Wichelo, 105 Kings Ride, Camberley G15 4LJ

Questions by the 11th October so that they can be addressed at the RMG Annual General Meeting on 21st October at London Metropolitan Archives.
