HEAD OF ARCHIVES, THE WATERWAYS TRUST c.£25,000+ car- Ellesmere Port The Waterways Trust (TWT) is a new organisation formed by combining three of Britain's leading Waterways Museums and British Waterways Archive under a unified management structure. TWT aims to conserve and promote our unique waterways heritage and present it to a wider audience. As Head of Archives, you will be responsible for the Archive and advising British Waterways in records management. Recently, British Waterways has been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund development grant for an ambitious £0.5 million project to link 15 different canal collections across the country online. The complete archive is estimated to contain over a quarter of a million items including maps, documents and photographs- many dating back to the 17th century. A substantial part of your work will be to lead the project, but you will also be responsible for developing national strategy on waterways archives and contributing to strategic direction in records management for British Waterways. We are looking for a qualified archivist with experience of records management and a track record in successful project management, including the use of information technology. The role involves considerable communication and liaison with committees and funders, so excellent interpersonal skills are a must. A full driving licence is essential as there is frequent travel. An interest in the waterways heritage should ideally be combined with an appreciation of the internet and all forms of electronic media.
