HEAD OF ARCHIVES, THE WATERWAYS TRUST

c.£25,000+ car- Ellesmere Port

The Waterways Trust (TWT) is a new organisation formed by combining three
of Britain's leading Waterways Museums and British Waterways Archive under
a unified management structure. TWT aims to conserve and promote our
unique waterways heritage and present it to a wider audience. As Head of
Archives, you will be responsible for the Archive and advising British
Waterways in records management.

Recently, British Waterways has been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund
development grant for an ambitious £0.5 million project to link 15
different canal collections across the country online. The complete
archive is estimated to contain over a quarter of a million items including
maps, documents and photographs- many dating back to the 17th century. A
substantial part of your work will be to lead the project, but you will
also be responsible for developing national strategy on waterways archives
and contributing to strategic direction in records management for British
Waterways.

We are looking for a qualified archivist with experience of records
management and a track record in successful project management, including
the use of information technology. The role involves considerable
communication and liaison with committees and funders, so excellent
interpersonal skills are a must. A full driving licence is essential as
there is frequent travel. An interest in the waterways heritage should
ideally be combined with an appreciation of the internet and all forms of
electronic media.
