BRITISH LIBRARY OF POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC SCIENCE ARCHIVES DIVISION The Archives Division administers the archives and rare book collections of the BLPES including the archives of the London School of Economics and deposited collections among which are the papers of political parties, pressure groups, research organisations and individuals. These include the archives of the Liberal Party, the Independent Labour Party, the personal papers of Sidney and Beatrice Webb, William Beveridge and the anthropologist, Bronislaw Malinowski. It has an active acquisitions programme in the fields of modern British political, economic and social history and commitment to providing access to the materials in its care. We are currently recruiting for 2 temporary posts within the Archives Division: ASSISTANT ARCHIVIST (Salary up to £23, 651) Ref: H109 The Archives Division is seeking to appoint an assistant archivist to participate in all aspects of its work In particular the post holder will be involved in individual listing projects and will work with other members of the Archives Division to provide a range of public services including the staffing of the Archives Reading Room and the development of the Archives Division enquiry service. Some evening and weekend duties may be required. The person appointed will be a qualified archivist with an interest in listing and user services. Good keyboard skills and an interest in archive automation and developing archive standards will be an advantage. ARCHIVES ASSISTANT (Salary up to £11.689) Ref: J121 The Archives Division is seeking to appoint an archives assistant to participate in all aspects of its work. The post holder will be introduced to all aspects of the Archive Divisions work and the principal duties of the post will be to support public services including working in the Archive Reading Room and the running of reprographic services. In addition there will be some involvement in the listing of archives and the retroconversion of existing catalogues. The person appointed will be a graduate and good keyboard and computer skills would be an advantage. The post would be particularly suited to those seeking practical experience of archive work prior to obtaining a professional qualification.
