International network for Pattern Recognition of Tumours using Magnetic
Resonance (INTERPRET).

Applications are invited from candidates who hold a good BSc Honours degree
in Mathematics or a related discipline for a 3-year EU funded studentship to
develop automated pattern recognition techniques for classifying MR spectra
of brain tumours. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-centre
inter-disciplinary European team which is developing a decision support tool
to help radiologists categorise brain tumours. She/he will have the
opportunity to travel to, and work in the different centres which include
the School of Cognitive and Computing Sciences at the University of Sussex,
and hospitals and universities in Barcelona, Nijmegen, and Grenoble.

Candidates should be EU nationals, and have good computer skills, and an
affinity for linear algebra and statistics. No knowledge of spectroscopy or
magnetic resonance is required.

The studentship is available for three years from 1st January 2000, and will
cover tuition fees and provide a stipend of £11,000 in the first year.
