Jeremy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ ***** London School of Economics ****** Part-time Class Teachers in Statistics £24 - £28 per teaching hour (according to experience), £7.48 per office hour. Part-time teaching positions in the Department of Statistics are available for the academic session 1999-2000. The work involves going through set exercises in class (one class per week for each group), marking students' homework, and holding one office hour for students' questions per week. The positions are suitable for someone studying for a PhD (or equivalent status) with a numerate background and an interest in teaching. Training will be provided. ***Quantitative Methods Courses*** First level Statistics courses for students who have reached A-level Mathematics or equivalent. The emphasis is on the applicability of statistical methods to economic problems. Total of 8 to 12 hours per class group, Lent and Summer Terms. ***Elementary Statistical Theory*** A first level course intended for students in Actuarial Science, Econometrics, Economics or Accounting who have mathematical knowledge equivalent to Mathematics A-level. The course aims to introduce students to a basic range of statistical ideas and techniques. Total of 22 hours per class group, Michaelmas, Lent and Summer Terms. ***Probability, Distribution Theory and Inference*** A second level course intended for students who have studied Elementary Statistical Theory and Mathematical Methods. The course covers probability, distribution theory and statistical inference and aims to prepare students for third year statistical and econometric courses. Total of 20 hours per group, Michaelmas and Lent Terms. ***Actuarial Science*** Second and third level classes in Actuarial science for students taking BSc Actuarial Science. The courses cover the application of compound interest techniques to financial transactions and the application of actuarial mathematics. Total of 10 or 12 hours per group in the Michaelmas and Lent Terms.
