Course Summaries

Course 1: 2 day introduction to CART (8-9 September)
This popular two-day seminar is for business users and IT audiences
interested in understanding decision-tree technology: what it is, why it
works, how it has been used, and how it can help you better understand your
data. You will master decision-tree fundamentals ... learn about
decision-tree applications ... how to build and interpret CART trees ...
and how to use advanced options -- alternative splitting rules, prior
probabilities, differential costs of misclassification -- to construct more
robust predictive models.
Course 2: 1 day advanced CART (10 September)
Sharpen your decision-tree expertise during this one-day advanced course
for analysts and modellers with prior knowledge of tree algorithms. Using
case studies, seminar topics include:
* hybridising decision trees with logistic regression and neural nets
* combining multiple trees via bagging, boosting, repeated sampling, and
varying priors
* understanding the strategy behind alternative splitting rules and their
strengths and weaknesses
* how to use variable costs of misclassification
* emerging topics in decision trees -- highlights of recent developments

Course 3: 1 day introduction to MARS (13 September)
Be the first on your block to get answers about an exciting, new regression
modelling tool - multiple adaptive regression splines. Why does it work?
How can it be used? How can it help you develop more accurate predictive
models. Learn how to plan and execute MARS analyses ... refine runs with
key control parameters … and how to use MARS to improve an existing
model. And, finally, how to use both CART and MARS to build more
accurate hybrid/ensemble models.

Please contact me for more details or to make a firm or provisional booking.
All courses will take place in London, at the RSS offices.
