BIOSTATISTICIAN The Medicines Control Agency, an Executive Agency of the Department of Health, requires a suitably qualified and experienced Biostatistician to contribute to the evaluation of statistical issues in medicines regulation within the UK. The primary purpose of the Agency is to safeguard public health by controlling human medicines. You will play a major part in the review of applications for new drug licences, concentrating upon the evidence relating to efficacy and risk/benefit from the pivotal trials. Assessment work at the MCA is undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams of pharmacists, scientists and physicians and you will be expected to play an integral role in this work. The advent of the European (CPMP) System for pharmaceuticals makes this a particularly exciting time to join. You should have several years' experience of statistical work in a similar field and a degree or a postgraduate qualification in statistics (or with a major statistical component). Communication skills and a capacity for working closely with colleagues from other disciplines are also essential. The appointment will be made for a period of three years with the possibility of extension. The starting salary will be around £35,000, depending on experience, although more may be available for an exceptional candidate.
