Biostatistician The Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences (DIAS), Department of Agricultural Systems invites applications for a position as a senior scientist or a scientist in the field of biometry. The position is vacant as of 1 September 1999. The position is attached to the Biometry Research Unit (BRU). At the moment, BRU consists of eight scientists seven of whom have a PhD degree. Three are employed as senior scientists. The overall aim of the group is to perform biometric research related to agricultural issues at an international level. The working field has a general importance for DIAS and consolidation of the field is achieved through development of research in areas of specific interest for DIAS. Fields of activity The senior scientist or scientist will take part in the tasks of the BRU: research, consultancy, teaching and participation in joint projects, especially concerning design and analysis of trials related to agricultural research problems and including development of methods for this work. The right person will be able to influence the content of his/her position through participating in project application. Qualifications The following qualifications are required for the position of a scientist: * A Masters degree in mathematics, statistics or a similar education in science with specialization in statistics * A PhD degree or similar scientific qualifications * Knowledge and experience with research within the field. The following qualifications are required for the position of a senior scientist: * A Masters degree in mathematics, statistics or a similar education in science with specialization in statistics * A PhD degree or similar scientific qualifications * Practical and theoretical experience with research within the field at the level of associated professor, and with the necessary scientific experience to plan, coordinate, carry out and develop research within the field. Furthermore, it is essential that the applicant is able to work within the key working fields of BRU listed below: * Longitudinal data and repeated measurements; * Spatially correlated data; * Censored data; * Graphical models and decision support systems. The position implies comprehensive collaboration with scientists from other scientific fields. Collaboration skills are essential for this position as are experience and interest in the biometric work. Knowledge of Danish is not essential, but knowledge of English is. However the successful applicant should be prepared to learn Danish. Field and place of employment The field of employment is the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. The place of employment will be the Department of Agricultural Systems, Research Centre Foulum, Denmark. Salary and employment conditions Rank and salary will be determined according to the regulations for salaries for academic staff in Danish state research institutes, generally in the range 300,000 - 350,000 Danish kroner, 43,000 - 50,000 US$, annually depending of rank and years of experience.
