Ph.D. Research Opportunities in
COMPUTATIONAL ECONOMETRICS & STATISTICS

Applications are invited for two Ph.D. studentships (research
assistantships) in the Department of Computer Science, University of
Neuchatel and Department of Econometrics, University of Geneva,
Switzerland.

The project aims to extend recent research in the development of
parallel algorithms and efficient numerical tools for computing
solutions of large-scale statistical model selection problems. The
various aspects of the research include:

o Development of numerically efficient methods for solving
    statistical model selection problems.

o The computational efficient solution of the various matrix
problems arising in the estimation methods.

  o Parallelization of the algorithms.

Research is expected to be pursued in the three areas listed above.
The weight of research carried out into each topic will depend on the
skills of the researcher(s).

Applicants should be able to demonstrate good knowledge in two of the
following: Parallel Computing, Numerical Linear Algebra, and
Econometrics & Statistics (Linear Models). The working language will
be English or French. However, French speaking candidates can apply
for a 50% teaching assistantship. Successful applicants will have the
chance to work in the research interface of Parallel Computing,
Statistics and Numerical Algorithms. The salary of 1/2 TA post and
Ph.D. studentship is approximately 27500 Swiss Francs (18300$) for
each post, increasing to 30500 SFR the second year.

The DEADLINE for applications for the PhD positions is 15 March
2000 or until the positions are filled. The successful applicants are
expected to start April 2000 or near this date.

Requests for further details and application in the form of CV (plain
text or LaTeX only if sent by e-mail - no postscript or word docs)
should be directed to:
