			MRC Biostatistics Unit
			======================

			 Two PhD Studentships
			 ====================

Two studentships are available in the MRC Biostatistics Unit. The
studentships are for a period of three years, commencing autumn 1999.
The Unit has a wide-ranging programme of research on the application
of probability models in biomedical research. Particularly active
areas in which research topics are available are genetic epidemiology
and statistical genetics, but other areas of research would be
considered for suitably qualified candidates.

Candidates should have a good degree in mathematics, with a
substantial component in statistics and probability. A Master's degree
in Statistics would be an advantage. The successful candidates will be
registered for a PhD in the University of Cambridge.

The Biostatistics Unit is situated in the Cambridge Institute of
Public Health, a University building on a site adjacent to
Addenbrooke's Hospital on the southern outskirts of Cambridge. The
Unit has excellent computing facilities and close links with
substantive research groups both locally and nationally.

Initial enquiries should be directed (preferably by e-mail) to

David Clayton
