Department of Statistical Science - University College London

Speaker : Prof. Tom Fearn (UCL)

Title : A Bayesian approach to variable selection in regression and
discriminant analysis

Abstract: The talk will describe a Bayesian decision theory approach to the
selection of variables in regression
and discrimination problems with very many explanatory variables. The
approach trades off
expected prediction or classification loss against a cost for the
variables. The methods are applied to
problems in near infrared spectroscopy.
