________________________________________________ Statistical Ecology: impact assessment modelling ______________________________________________________ Postdoc; St. Andrews University, Scotland, UK; 2 years. __________________________________________________________________________ A postdoctoral position is available on combining population dynamic modelling and statistical modelling for ecological impact assessment. The idea is to integrate population dynamic models within a statistical modelling framework, in order to improve ecological predictions for impact assessment. The work will build on existing methodology developed at St. Andrews for fitting and inference using population dynamic models, the structure of which may include non-parametric smooth terms. The project provides much scope for innovative work in population dynamics and methodological statistics. The post is funded by Zeneca Agrochemicals (as part of its strategic research program) and will involve collaboration with Dr. Tim Kedwards and colleagues in Zeneca's ecological risk assessment section based at Jealott's Hill in Berkshire. The postdoc will work with Dr. Simon Wood at the University of St. Andrews in the Centre for Research into Ecological and Environmental Modelling and the Mathematical Institute. The centre currently includes a very active research group in statistical ecology headed by Prof. Steve Buckland (see http://www.ruwpa.st-and.ac.uk). The ideal candidate will have good computer skills and a background in statistical and/or ecological modelling. Candidates should have a PhD or expect to obtain one shortly, although candidates without a PhD may be considered if they have suitable experience.
