RSS S Wales Discussion Meeting on

"What sort of statistics graduates are needed in official
statistics"

(opened by Mark Pont, Office for National Statistics)

Time: 5pm Wednesday June 9 [tea at 4.30 pm]

Venue: School of Mathematics, Senghennydd Road, University of
Wales Cardiff

Backgound:
ONS is a major employer of statisticians in South Wales (presently
over 50 degree-level qualified statisticians) and recent recruitment
exercises at ONS have revealeda dearth of graduates exhibiting the
statistical knowledge and skills that the organisation needs and
values. ONS believes that local universities can enhance the career
prospects of their students (particularly in the local labour market)
by tailoring courses so that their graduates can be more competitive.
A short talk will outline the types of knowledge and skills that ONS
values, and will precde a discussion on the topic.
