                University of Bremen

The University of Bremen announces the vacancy of a position in the
faculty of Mathematics, Technomathematics, and Informatics (Faculty
03) to be filled as soon as possible, pending official approval:

                      PROFESSORSHIP

              as civil servant for lifetime

in the department of STATISTICS, with the major topics
of: "BIOMETRICS and methods for EPIDEMIOLOGY".

The position is with the Institute of Statistics in Faculty 03,
in conjunction with the university department of BIOMETRICS at the
Bremen Institute for Prevention Research, Social Medicine, and
Epidemiology (BIPSE) which provides considerable research possibilities.
We are looking for a mathematician with qualifications in the field of
statistics and with experience in applied projects (extensive empirical
studies in the field of clinical research / epidemiology). The applicant
must have experience in obtaining grants and in the leadership of
interdisciplinary working groups. Teaching duties include basic and
advanced courses in the field of mathematics, as well as special
services providing statistical expertise to other departments,
especially for postgraduate studies in health sciences and public

jointly oversee the functions of the individual division heads of the
non-university BIPS which is bound to the university by a co-operative
agreement. Within this leadership function, the successful applicant
will be expected to initiative and acquire funding for projects, and
to provide methodological advice to other divisions. The successful
applicant will actively support the BIPSE's obligatory goal of
research toward preventative techniques. In addition to the general
employment requirements for civil servants and the educational
suitability and special ability for scientific work, the position
requires a qualification equivalent to a German habilitation in
mathematics or statistics and relevant teaching experience. The
university, in its wish to increase the number of women scientists,
specifically invites women to apply. Handicapped individuals with
generally equal qualifications and personal ability will be given
preference.
