I would be very grateful to receive information from colleagues who have a policy on the award of first-class honours degrees with distinction (starred firsts). Currently at York, individual departments have formulated their own policies in this area, with the result that some award distinctions and some don't consider them at all. The criteria used by the departments who do award them also vary. I have undertaken to find out about practice elsewhere and would be glad to hear from you if you have an overall policy (and if so, what it is) or if you are operating under the same circumstances as us at present.
