In answer to the original question, here at UoB we are now in the
seventh year of our student finance survey. With regard to student
employment they show

"Regular employment during term time has increased from 27% in 1992 to
46% in 1998..... taking regular and occasional employment together 58%
of students now have some form of employment. In 1998, 39% of those
students with term time employment worked for more than 15 hours per
week, compared to 22% in 1992".

The University suggests a maximum of 12 per week employment term time.

With regard to Mit. Circs, surely, if  financial circumstances are a
factor they must be taken on an individual basis, rather than taking the
blanket approach that some seem to be advocating. There is no reason to
suggest that the financial circumstances a student finds himself/herself
are NOT due to unforeseen reasons. One needs to look at the whole
picture rather than a small part of it i.e. there may be secondary
reasons for the financial plight of an individual.
