Concern has been expressed here that new examiners for research degrees do not always receives either guidelines/advice or training and the regisrty has been asked to address this issue. One suggestion is that new examiners be encouraged ( with the candidate's permission) - (or even required !) to sit in on one or more VIVA examinations as observers. be grateful to learn what you do in your institution.
