CONFERENCES
CHALLENGING RACISM IN HIGHER EDUCATION
CONFERENCE – January 25th, 2000
A practical approach to the recent study ‘Ethnicity and Employment in Higher Education’ by John Carter, Steve Fenton and Tariq Modood.
CONFERENCE AIM: Offer a forum to move forward the race equality debate within the Higher Education sector. CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES: To review the ‘Ethnicity and Employment in Higher Education’ report. To examine in the light of recent developments, good practice for developing a culture of diversity and reducing racism. To identify priorities, strategies and practical ways forward for the implementation of the recommendations proposed by the ‘Ethnicity and Employment in Higher Education’ Report. Speakers include Steve Fenton an author of the report, Professor Heidi Safia Mirza and a representative from CVCP/CUCO. This Conference will be held on Tuesday 25th January, 2000 at CVCP, Woburn House, 20 Tavistock Square, London WC1H 9BQ. Fee £95.00 for members and £110 for non members.
RESIDENTIAL CONFERENCE – 21st & 22nd JUNE, 2000
This year’s annual residential conference will be held at Tapton, Hall of Residence, University of Sheffield on 21st and 22nd June, 2000. Details of this will be available nearer the date.
TRAINING DAYS
WORKING WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS.
To be held on 22nd November, 1999 – at CVCP in London. This is a one-day event for staff who during the course of their work come into contact with students from cultures other than their own. It will help those working with international students to appreciate the difficulties that these students face as they experience life at a UK University. For the purposes of the course the term international students refers to all students from outside the UK including the EU. Training day fee is £80
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TRAINING FOR OFFICERS NEW TO AN EO ROLE
To be held on 10th February, 2000 at CVCP in London This is a repeat of the training day held in February of this year. The objectives are to develop the participants’ knowledge of EO legislation and relevant facts together with their awareness of minority issues in all the relevant areas; and to start formulating an action plan for their own institutions. Training day fee is £80.
