A number of participants have asked me to remind them of the Royal College
of Pathologists' rules on using Cases for Comment for CME/ CPD purposes.

1. Participants must tell me in advance that they wish to use participation
in these Cases for CME. To date, 48 participants have asked me to register
them (of which 43 have participated).

2. I keep a log of these participants, and will send a summary of all
participations to the College at the beginning of April.

3. Participants are allowed to give themselves one point for each Case
commented on and/or each Case suggested which is used. A maximum of 10
points can be claimed each year towards the annual mimimum target of 50
points. The points are counted as 'approved self-learning'. The Assessors
are also allowed to claim one point for each case they assess; and I assume
that this counts as an additional 10 point maximum under 'approved
self-learning'. I am allowed to claim 2 credits for each Case I distribute
and summarise; perhaps fortunately for me, it is only of academic interest
how many points are allowed each year for my 50 point total.

4. The rules will be changed slightly from April 1st 1999. I believe that
participation will then be registered as 'distance learning' in the
'Clinical' category of education; but I have not yet confirmed this with
the College.

Best wishes
Gordon
