I am writing in response to the recent reports concerning the above subject The Medical Devices Agency received a report from Mr Halloran in May of this year about a sealed specimen container that exploded because it had been filled with dry ice. The Medical Devices Agency responded by indicating that the container was not a medical device as defined in the Medical Devices Regulations (93/42/EEC). Responsibility for investigating incidents involving this type of equipment lies with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Therefore the report was forwarded to Mr Chris Taylor of HSE. If anyone has any further incidents of this type to report please report them directly to the HSE.
