We are now taking bookings for workshops in the 1999 programme Guided Tour of the Internet 20 January, Birmingham * 14 April, London The Internet is not only an invaluable tool for gaining access to information, but also allows the user to become a provider of information. As a librarian/information professional your role in navigating through this system is fast becoming vital. How will this event help you? This event will give you a practical introduction to the Internet and help you understand first hand the range of services and facilities which confront the typical user. It will guide you through: * the types of information available on the Internet * what tools to use to access this information * the practical uses of the Internet by libraries and information services - with examples of innovative projects * choosing an Internet connection service provider * different forms of service delivery * different methods of collection * the range of services available: Email, World Wide Web, Bulletin Boards, Gopher, Netscape, MSN. Features The day is illustrated with live on-line sessions to interpret the Internet services and conventions.
