For free the only thing i can think of is bibliotex, part of the Tex
typesetting system. will do many things but has a *steep* learning curve
because you end up moving into a very different world view of document
processing. cant particularly recommmend it, personally. it might be worth
trolling the shareware archives eg shareware.com download.com to see if
anyone has already donewhat you want. Like others I find for ease of use
the $$ware products like endnote or reference manager are difficult to beat.
